Throughout the year, we utilize some online programs to assist with the learning process this year. At times, you will log into the following programs: Newsela.com, NoRedink.com, Google Classroom, and Infinite Campus. All of these websites will require a group code before logging in.
The CEO of Newsela tells how this website helps with college and career readiness.
|
Newsela.com - The website will be used once a week to read an informational article of your choosing to practice the reading comprehension skills for informational articles. The goal for this program is to help you practice reading and answering questions that are dependent on the text (a.k.a. text-dependent questions). In addition, to answering questions, you want to keep improving your reading level, so I will be meeting with you during this time to talk about how you are doing with your reading goals.

NoRedink.com - This website will be used to practice your punctuation and grammar skills to become a better communicator and writer. On a weekly basis, you will use this website to practice your grammar skills and take some grammar tests. Please note that this website will be used as a supplemental to the learning of grammar and punctuation - it will not be the only way you are learning grammar and punctuation.
Vocabulary.com - To strengthen your vocabulary knowledge you will encounter various lists created based upon your readings. There will be a leaderboard, so you can compete amongst your classmates. Earn badges to become the czar of vocabulary words, which will earn you bonus prizes at the end of the quarter. Socrative.com - At the conclusion of class, I will ask you what you have learned in the class that day. In class, I will refer this as to your "Exit Ticket". It's important that you respond within the time allotted otherwise the session will log you out of the system causing the inability to submit a response giving you zero points for the "Exit Ticket". If you are absent, please see absence policy found under "Classroom Policy". |
This video gives a brief a brief overview of the various reasons for using Google Classroom.
|
Google Classroom - This platform will be used for turning in all digital assignments, taking tests, turning in projects, and affords the opportunity to provide real-time feedback on written assignments. This program allows for rubric grading feedback to you, the student, whereas Edmodo doesn't allow for this feedback to happen. Please note all assignments will be given through this platform, which means all assignments are turned in through this platform - there are no sending assignments through school loop. The grades from Google Classroom will be transferred to School Loop. |
